SEO- Search Engine Optimization Hints and Tricks
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is crucial for the traffic involvement your web site or blog will attract. Your website and or blog will naturally be composed of words. The more 'words' in your documents, the better! Text rich documents are full of juicy keywords those spiders (yes they're back!) just love to eat. If, for instance, your blogs topic is about artwork, then you should try and compose your blog in such a way that you are using relevant keywords relating to artwork and use as less slang as possible. This also includes Internet chat speak. I do get asked quite a lot "why can't we use copious amounts of chat speak in our blogs? It's an Internet thing right?" Well the answer is plain and simple, when have you ever searched Google for "xD" or "<3"?>Chat speak is not something you would want to search for in a search engine unless you were trying to find out what on earth it actually meant. So for this reason it is best that you avoid chat speak where necessary and just use keywords that are relevant to your blogs topic. Not only will your web pages and blogs receive a higher Search engine ranking but you wont confuse and annoy your reader by using words they may not be used to reading.
Another great way of increasing your SEO is to add the main keywords of your blog or web page and incorporate them into your domain name. So for example, if your blogs topic is animal habitats, than you should create a domain name such as www.animalhabitats.com. The reason being is that those hungry spiders will initially search for important keywords in the domain name title.
Again, there are plenty of ways to increase SEO for your blogs, if you are linking to additional pages within your blog then make sure your anchor links and texts are full of keywords. So if your linking a page via a text link make sure you incorporate the primary keywords into it. This is very important and is just as important as making your blog relevant to your title and filling it up with more juicy keywords.
Speaking of titles, your web page title/ blog title should also be relevant to your blog subject. Try and use only primary keywords within your blog title if possible. This will boost your SEO, and the more topic specific keywords in important places like domain names and topic headers, the better your website ranking will be!
Now as smart as these Search engine spiders are, you can still make life easier for them, and your web site. If your navigation is clear and easy to understand and all relevant headers are linked to appropriate web pages relating to your sub headings, then you will have made it easier for search engines to sift through your website. If that all sounded a bit too confusing then here is an example; If you have a website on animal habitats and you have a few sub headings such as, "species" "photos" and "more information", then you would make sure that once someone clicked on the "species" page they would arrive at a page full of species information. If that page was full of keywords that were completely unrelated to the word species, then your in trouble. Those search engine hunters wont recognize your specific topic and you will have less chance of getting your website ranked above someone who has all their link and web pages ordered and worded properly.
These are the first steps you should take to increase your SEO and increase your traffic flow to your web site or blog. You should remember to always update your blog with fresh content. Stale blogs will not remain at the top of the search engine rankings for long, so you should make a mental note to update your blog at least once a week, if you can update it regularly throughout the week with content rich articles then that would be even better.
If you would like to see how your web page is ranked among others and where it stands as far as SEO is concerned, you should download the google toolbar, which gives you an indication on how well your website is ranked. It can also show you how well other web sites and blogs are ranked also.
